STONEHAVEN & DISTRICT RIDING CLUB FEBRUARY UPDATE

DRESSAGE AND SJ LEAGUE SHOWS
The shows are being very successful with everyone having fun and enjoying them. We only have one more show ( 8th March ) before the final in April.  If you know of anyone or a company who would like to sponsor a trophy for the final please let me know. Their name would be on the trophy and handed down to the winner of that class every year.

JANE RUTHERFORD DRESSAGE CLINICS
The next Jane clinic is Wed 19th March  9am – 1.30 pm, Fri 21st March  all day
Slight change of times  and not sure yet what time Jane needs to leave on the Fri night as she will be travelling back home so will possibly need to leave earlier. Can you let me know when you would like a session and will get times sorted out.

HAMISH CAMERON TRAINING
Again this is very popular and good to see everyone enjoying and improving. Can you let me know if you want this training to continue over the summer as I know everyone is busy competing. I think it would be good to keep it going even if it went to once a month as it’s a Tuesday it’s not really affecting if you are out competing at the weekend.

FUNDRAISING
We are trying to raise funds to buy a full set of show jumps for the club as if we are to hold a gymkhana we need a set of jumps so……..
Bag Packing at Somerfield on the 12th April  and 21st June. We will provide t shirts with Stonehaven riding club on them so that everyone knows why we are doing it.  Can you let me know if you are available to help as the more we have the better and kids as well the more the merrier.

Leigh and Christine are organising a race night on the 29th March at Drumlithie Hall. There is a licensed bar and bring your own nibbles. Tickets cost £5. Funds again for show jumps. If you want to buy some tickets or would like to sell some tickets contact Leigh 07974400463 or Christine 07790486826.There is a poster on the web that you can download if you think of anywhere to advertise it.

PLEASURE RIDES
As the nice weather is here we are hoping to start the rides again in March/April for those of you who are interested.

JUNIOR TRAINING
Julie Robertson is going to do a junior training every fortnight on a Friday night starting 7th March at Mill Uras. It will divided into age and ability and training for the junior team for the qualifiers. Anyone interested in teams that hasn’t already given me their names please let me know if you are interested.

PAULINE KIDD DEMO
Friday 11th April 6.30 pm at Mill Uras.
Pauline will do a hour yard yoga – which is not really yoga it is exercises to help and improve your riding and then she will do a half hour demo with a horse and rider to show how certain ways we sit and ride affect the horses way of going and how to improve it. I have heard a lot about Pauline and everyone I have spoken to who have seen her demos have said they are fun and very interesting. There will be a small charge for this.

And finally hope you are all enjoying the club and would like to welcome some new members to the club and look forward to meeting you all. We are a very friendly and fun club. Remember if you have any more ideas for the club just let me know.

See you all soon

NEW EQUINE EXTRAVAGANZA
British Riding Clubs (BRC) in Scotland have decided to organize a two-day Equine Extravaganza which will be held on 15th & 16th March 2008 at the SNEC, Oatridge. BRC Area 22 Representative, Marjory Norrie, comments: “Although BRC hold an annual conference in England it was thought a good idea to organise something in Scotland for all the Scottish members. However, since its conception, plans have somewhat snowballed so that we are now putting on a two-day extravaganza aimed at all levels of riders, who don’t have to be a member of a riding club, or even own a horse! We truly believe there is something for everyone over the two days and, with free admission, we hope to attract significant numbers to the new Scottish National Equestrian Centre at Oatridge.”

The free demonstrations already confirmed include Show Jumping (with international rider Andrew Hamilton), Dressage to Music (with national champion Jo Barry), Vaulting, Arena Eventing (with Les Smith) and the exciting new sport of Horse Ball. There will be an opportunity to learn about horse dentistry, saddle fitting, farriery as well as alternative therapies such as Reiki. There will also be plenty of opportunity for retail therapy with a wide variety of trade stands.

In addition to the free demonstrations, there will be a number of workshops running over the two days. There will be a charge for these workshops but it is an excellent opportunity to gain qualifications, such as first aid and safeguarding and protecting children certificates, many of which are legal requirements these days.

AFFILIATION
The affiliation forms have been sent so just waiting word back as to when the club will be assessed so hopefully they will allow us to become an affiliated club. Julie and I attended the BRC area 22 meeting which was held in the St Leonards last Sunday and Julie is now treasurer and I am the training officer for area 22.

TEAMS
Is anyone interested in being in a team for the riding club so we can put some junior and senior teams forward to the qualifiers which I think are going to be held in Fyfe this year.If we can get some interest in this we could do some team training over the winter. More info on this after the New Year.

FORUM

Gail has set up a Forum for the Club which will allow people to post questions not only about the Club but for general horsey advice and chit-chat.  The web address for the Forum is http://stonehavenridingclub.forumup.co.uk/index.php?mforum=stonehavenridingclubRegistration is free and you can add a photo of your horse as an avatar!

HELPER VOUCHERS
One idea that is widely used by other clubs to encourage members to help at events is to distribute vouchers to those members who have helped at competitions.  These vouchers can then be redeemed off entries at future competitions or training
